Good to know. I had some trouble a couple months back getting wifi and Ethernet working, and learned my phone can provide Internet over USB.

Sleep deprivation makes people crazy. Keeping people up all hours with dubiously legal construction noises and lights? If I was on the jury for someone who burned the place down, I’d nullify.
jjjalljs@ttrpg.networkto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's that book or story you vaguely remember reading but forgot the title of and can't find it anywhere anymore?4·3 days agoI read a fiction in high school about like the afterlife, and it mentioned the best English playwright wasn’t Shakespeare. It was some nobody who only showed his writing to his neighbor, but the neighbor was an asshole and told him it was trash. Don’t remember anything else about it but that stuck with me.

Personally I feel like “AI” stuff is not great for anybody except the people selling it (and even they are often losing money)
A couple CEOs have made statements about how they’re not hiring anyone in favor of “AI”. Somehow Saint Luigi hasn’t visited any of them, but I think a couple had to reverse course after the “AI” was bad.
Labor should unite. We don’t need infinite growth and profits. Dignity and a sustainable environment are more important

Now I’m not even getting phone screens, despite having more experience.
AI is eating everyone’s lunch on top of everything else

jjjalljs@ttrpg.networkto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does the average american, when naming a price of any given item, takes into account taxes or disregards it?9·6 days agoUsually people talk about the pre tax cost.
I have a tinfoil hat theory that the taxes are kept like that to give people a recurring, low grade, anti-tax sentiment. There are a lot of crazy idiots that don’t want government to exist here, so by making people feel bad about paying taxes (instead of obscuring that by baking it into the listed price) they can win sympathy.

jjjalljs@ttrpg.networkto Gaming@lemmy.ml•after Elden Ring what souls game should one play next?61·13 days agoDs2 is worth playing if you like the franchise/genre. It tries some stuff different from the previous game, and some of it works.
It think it’s also easier than ds1, and maybe DS3. I almost cleared it without dying, just using a normal build. Because of the weird “lose max health on death” mechanic, if you die a lot it can snowball, but if you stay alive your max health is pretty generous.

It’s a bad system economically, ecologically, and socially, but many people are kind of stupid and reactionary. You show them how putting in a bike lane and adding a bus stop will lower car traffic, improve air quality, and increase economic activity and they just go “no because I feel so”. Or, “one time I had to move a refrigerator so we need to prioritize large privately owned vehicles”.
jjjalljs@ttrpg.networkto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do gamers actually like the look of gaming computers and accessories?50·29 days agoI would prefer basic, subtle, black. I don’t want rainbows and lights. I’m very function over form.
I’d also rather play a game on medium settings where it runs flawlessly and doesn’t make the fans go hard, than at high settings with worse performance.
jjjalljs@ttrpg.networkto Antiwork@lemmy.ml•People call hard-work a ‘scam’ and no longer think it will lead to a better life14·1 month agoWell, yeah.
Maybe if you own the business and keep a big chunk of the profits. But for the standard “you get a salary” job? Yeah you’re being robbed. That’s capitalism.
"A worker pulls into the parking lot at work, and the boss pulls in right after in a new sports car. The worker says, ‘wow what a car! How did you get it?’
The boss says, ‘Tell you what. You work hard this quarter, hit all your numbers, put in some overtime, and I can buy a new one next quarter.’"

I’m about 40 and I never had instagram, barely used facebook, and didn’t use any others really. I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem where someone backed out because I didn’t have instagram. But I also don’t have a big group of casual friends, and maybe that would be harder.
Discord sucks, but I’ve noticed a lot of social groups use it. A couple meetups I go to all use it for communication. Maybe that’s more bearable than instagram?

Some of it was at least superficially interesting, but one part stood out as haunting. It casually mentioned how a “founder” at Zoom was trying to get money, and the investors thought it was a stupid idea. It was a “solved problem” that already had big players in the space. But they were personally friends with the guy, so they gave him a few hundred million dollars.
That’s not something to be proud of. Nepotism and bro-driven-investment isn’t the ideal.
But these rich assholes pretend they’re such visionaries. Gatekeepers of the future. Fuck them. Fuck them all. The climate is a disaster and they’re pouring billions into “Cats in the metaverse”? Crimes against humanity.

I want it to get to a level where you find the good stuff reddit used to have. Like niche hobbies, detailed analysis, etc.
I’m doing my part, I guess

They don’t really have an algorithm, but you can see who else purchased something, and they do blog posts about like “what’s new in [genre]” that’s worth reading. So far as I can tell it’s written by real people.

So I started naively replacing “fuck” with “fudge”. “That’s pretty fudged up.” “Well, fudge it, we’ll deal with that next.” “Fudge if I know.”
He didn’t really like it, but he can go fudge himself.
It’s real hard to get people to buy into “you do all the work why should the owner keep all the profits?”. People just accept that as normal and right.
