BeReal is not good (most appropriate way i could say this). It is a Privacy nightmare. Just think about it, a bunch of random strangers are getting access to every single day what you and your family are doing. I know nobody is concerned about privacy anymore. Seems like we have lost that but still Also BeReal has a bunch of Ads. And since the inclusion of Ads bereal has quickly lost in popularity. If you are searching for a Alternative, you should try out DD-DigitalDiary It doesn’t have a lot of the features like social sharing. It is basically a journaling application. But still could be a good alternative. Also there was another app Minutaie which first started this trend so i suggest you should also check it out

I just find the format itself pointless. Not only does that encourage oversharing (including images of your face, which for me is a big no-no), but also doesn’t allow expressing yourself. You can pretty much only state facts like “I cooked pancakes today”. Not express your thoughts and skills, like a wall of text on hidden meanings in Squidward’s music. Even in a simple photo report, choosing how and when to take photos is most of the art, while randomized timing deprives you of that.

The idea is that is it more “real” than the other social media apps, because you cannot prepare your best self for the photo and not necessarily the best memory of that day will be recorded. Reality is that most people (maybe all people) have a relatively boring life (it’s not everyday that something worthy of attention happens) and there is not much value in sharing e.g. your lunch. Most people had it that day and yours was also not that extraordinary.

Unfortunately since facebook (maybe instagram topped it) everyone may have their own tabloid platform to share their everyday life as celebrities do on tabloids and people seem to love it.

Not to mention the huge privacy concern that you post of a photo everyday, which may include your location, definitely your face and other useful information that may be used to hurt or annoy you in some way.

But that’s just documenting a life. I don’t find it interesting to just look at someone’s life (unless said life is really unusual). I want to see the personality.

I used it when it came out for a while, it was really nice coming from Instagram or Facebook where everyone tailors their posts around successes or glam shots. BeReal was cool because it sends a notification once a day for when you can post your photo, and you have to take it then.

It ended up being a lot of people just sitting in bed or watching TV, which gave me a lot of satisfaction seeing nobody does social things 24/7.

I give it a lot of credit for giving me the push to quit social media altogether to be honest
